if you can't stand the heat

I thought I was ready for the heat. But, knowing that August and September were unusually cool in 2006 (it never got above 100), this prediction of hotter than average is a bit alarming for the uninitiated.

"A weak El Niño will give the Southwest a jump-start on an expected hotter-than-normal summer, with a 50 percent likelihood of above-average temperatures hitting Arizona as early as March.

An in-depth climate assessment issued Wednesday by University of Arizona scientists puts the state at the center of a widespread pattern of forecast temperatures that are increasingly likely to be above normal as the summer progresses. From March through August, Arizona ranges between 40 percent and 70 percent likely to have temperatures above normal.

By June, the West, the South and much of the East Coast should be experiencing hotter-than-normal weather. Only the upper Midwest and the far Northeast are expecting normal summer temperatures. Small portions of Southern California are expecting a late-spring stretch of below-normal temperatures."
