On Saturday we parked downtown and did a 4 mile loop down Government St and through the Oakleigh Historic District to look at the old houses. Each historic house had the crest of the Mobile Historic Development Commission and the name and or date of house. Most were between 1890 to 1910. In addition to the lovely houses, I enjoyed the shadows cast by the Live Oak trees that hang over the sidewalks. Worth noting is that this is quite a different view of Mobile than the one gained through our job in the low income neighborhoods. Both are part of Mobile and I know most people do not see or experience the more hidden part.
